    Make a Cheese Burger

    Posted By Exther Kepthtyr

    What You Need

To make 4 succulent beef patties, start with 1¼ pounds of ground chuck (85 percent lean or less). Then heat your grill to medium-high.

    Step 1

Divide the meat and gently form it into 4 balls. (Don’t overwork the meat or it will become dry and tough.)

    Step 2
Flatten the balls into ¾-inch-thick patties. Also flatten the top and sides of each patty to ensure that the thickness is the same throughout.

    Step 3
Use your fingers to make a shallow well in the top of each patty (this will prevent overplumping). Season the patties with salt and pepper.

    Step 4
Oil the grill grate using a pair of tongs and a paper towel dipped in canola oil. (Don’t spray on the oil or you’ll risk a flare-up.)6 Steps to a Delicious Beef Burger

    Step 5
Cook, with the wells facing up, until the burgers release easily, 4 to 5 minutes for medium. (Don’t press or flatten.) Flip; cook 4 to 5 minutes more.6 Steps to a Delicious Beef Burger

    Step 6
Check the doneness with a thermometer. (Insert it through the side so the tip is in the center.) It should register 155° F for medium.

    Top 5 Beaches to Visit

    Seychelles
    www.seychelles.com
One of the most photographed beaches in the world, the pale pink sands of Anse Source d’Argent unfurls across the island of La Digue, one of the 115 components of this archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The sands sparkle against a backdrop of towering granite boulders, worn by time and weather. The turquoise water is relatively shallow and protected from the ocean’s waves by a reef.

    Maldives
    www.visitmaldives.com
Whether your dream beach trip consists of spending a few pampered nights in a four-star resort or swimming among tropical fish some 80 feet (24 meters) underwater, the Maldives are the sort of islands where either—or both—can come true. Straddling the Equator southwest of Sri Lanka, the 1,102 islands that make up the Maldives form 26 atolls. The soft air enveloping the archipelago blends into a beautiful palm-fringed haze.

    Bora Bora, Tahiti
    www.tahiti-tourisme.com/islands/borabora/
This is one of the magical islands that make up French Polynesia in the South Pacific. Just 18 miles (29 kilometers) long, this lush little slip of land lies in a protected lagoon edged by white sandy shores, the best being at Matira Point. Bora Bora boasts the nickname the “Romantic Island,” a moniker easy to appreciate with its isolated beaches, intimate hotels, and quiet atmosphere.

    The Hamptons, New York
    www.hamptons.com
One of the hip spots for the air-kissing, well-heeled set, the Hamptons boast some of the prettiest beaches on Long Island. The unspoiled shoreline begins around Southampton and runs east to the end of the island at Montauk. Windswept dunes and waving grasses border the Atlantic Ocean.

    Lanikai Beach, Hawaii
    www.hawaii.com
Half a mile of sparkling sand, palm trees swaying over a white beach, lush tropical plants, and endless sunshine make Lanikai one of Hawaii’s most scenic beaches. The shore is protected by a nearby coral reef, which keeps the surf relatively calm. The water is always deep green and postcard-perfect.

The Era of Retail 3D Printing Begins

    Posted By Exther Kepthtyr
A quirky kind of store has opened up at 298 Mulberry Street in downtown Manhattan. It’s the first retail location for MakerBot, one of the leading consumer 3D printer companies. People can come in, look at a variety of printed objects, and buy 3D printed knickknacks like watch bands and little plastic squirrels for their friends. They can also check out the just-released Replicator 2 printer from MakerBot that costs $2,199 and lets people build larger, more precise objects than its predecessors could. (It’s aimed at professional designers who want an object factory on their desk.)

I’ve been waiting a while for one of the 3D printer makers to go the retail route, and it’s quite something to see the initial store appear in New York. Through MakerBot and Shapeways, in particular, New York has emerged at the hotbed of the consumer 3D printing scene. (Shapeways is sort of like the Amazon.com (AMZN) of 3D printing. It lets people order objects made out of plastic, glass, metal, and other materials, and then prints the objects and mails them off.) Later this year, in fact, Shapeways will also open a 3D printing factory in Long Island City and have an area where people can see how these objects get made.

Silicon Valley, for some reason, has shown very little interest in 3D printing. There’s a couple of startups like Bespoke Innovations, newly acquired by the giant 3D Systems (DDD) (which I profiled earlier this year); and Made In Space, a company that is experimenting with zero-gravity 3D printing so that one day space missions could save weight by printing objects they need after launch. Overall, though, venture capitalists have ignored the technology, and even a printing giant like Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) has only managed a reseller deal around commercial 3D printing systems. It’s said nothing about making its own machines or having consumer aspirations.

SLIDESHOW: Why Your Office Needs a MakerBot Printer
To have a look at how good the consumer models have gotten, check out Bre Pettis, the MakerBot chief executive officer, in this demo of the new Replicator. Or have a peek at the Cube from 3D Systems, which costs $1,299. With these two systems, the hardware has started to move well beyond the crude, hobbyist stage. Just as important, the software is catching up, so that true amateurs—and not just engineers—can design their own models and print them with relative ease.
